Ergh, I hate when we're specifically targetted. Which is always it seems!
Last time I was in IL I read an electronic sign that said something along the lines of "xxxx people dead on IL roadways in 2013".
While I forget the exact number, it was in the thousands. And I can guarantee you that the majority of those deaths were the result of dumbass 4-wheelers and not trucks. So how about target them for a change?!?!
24 hours of nonstop tickets being written and issued out.
24 hours of nonstop tickets being written and issued out.
Only if you do not do your job and do what is needed to avoid said tickets.
Oh you guys are going to love this.....I happen to know the history in this situation and this is a shameful redirection of the blame onto truck drivers to distract people from the truth about what happened back in the recent past. Here's an excerpt from an article written by The Illinois Campaign For Political Reform:
Licenses for Bribes: The Roots of Corruption, Closer to the Top
The investigation also uncovered rampant political corruption in the state agency that licenses truck drivers. In offices all over the state, employees came to believe that their careers, evaluations, promotions, and pay increases all depended on their ability to raise campaign contributions for their political patron, then-Secretary of State George Ryan. [1]
The drive to raise political contributions, to buy tickets to fund-raising events, led Department of Motor Vehicles employees all over Illinois to take bribes from applicants and from owners of driving schools, according to federal indictments. Over 690 truck drivers and 470 passenger car drivers were licensed as a result of the scheme. Later media investigations linked these drivers to at least 59 accidents and at least 9 deaths. [2]
All told, federal officials claim, over $170,000 in bribes paid by unqualified drivers wound up in George Ryan's campaign coffers. [3]
Former Inspector General Dean Bauer is the most recent Secretary of State employee to plead guilty. Though the top law enforcement officer in George Ryan's Secretary of State office, Bauer admitted to impeding investigation, to covering up evidence that he obstructed efforts to weed out corruption. Prosecutors also alleged that Bauer took $2,500 in cash and 64 fundraising tickets from the evidence locker.
So the bottom line? Political corruption, including the top law enforcement officer in The Office Of The Secretary Of State, lead to CDL's being sold to drivers who should have never had one in the first place. So what does the state do to deflect the blame and erase the memory of what really happened???
They target truck drivers.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Sounds like "Business as Usual" for Chicago style politics . . . let me see, where did I read about a Chicago politician made it to the big time in Washington D.C. . . . seems like his name a was O-something . . . Obummer? Something like that . . . it's on the tip of my tongue . . .

Illinois State Police Launching Weekend Enforcement: ‘Targeted Focus’ Will Be on CMVs
According to a press release from the Illinois State Police, this weekend the ISP will be conducing an aggressive, statewide campaign that will place a “targeted focus on the safe driving of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).”
The enforcement campaign is being held in honor of fallen Trooper James Sauter, who was killed by on March 28, 2013 when his vehicle was struck by a truck on I-294.
“Within the last two years, ISP buried two troopers and remain hopeful that another trooper recovers from life threatening injuries – all resulting from CMV crashes,” the ISP press release states.
All ISP personnel are working the enforcement blitz, called ‘Operation Sauter,’ and will be “aggressively patrolling Illinois roadways for 24 consecutive hours (March 28-29).
Operation Sauter will kick off with ISP officers saturating the interstates statewide, conducting road side safety checks to enforce the ISP’s Fatal Four mission: Speeding, Seatbelts, DUI and Distracted Driving, to ensure the safety of the motoring public in preparation for the busy spring travel season,” said ISP Division of Operations Colonel Michael Zerbonia.
In the wake of the accidents, the ISP has adopted the slogan “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow” and is working to emphasize the importance of not driving when you’re too tired.
“The men and women of the ISP want Operation Sauter to remind the motoring public and commercial motor vehicle operators that safe driving saves lives,” said ISP Director Hiram Grau. “Today, ISP officers statewide will enforce the road safety laws and remember Jim’s courage and dedication to keeping our roads and drivers safe,” Grau added.
“However our number one goal during this 24 hour enforcement period is to raise public awareness within the motor carrier industry on the importance of safety regulations – namely driver fatigue – because drowsiness can have the same effects as driving under the influence,” added Zerbonia.
