I hope this is not an inappropriate question here as my first post. Are these any companies to avoid working for?

I'd say NONE really, each 1 is totally different in how they operate their businesses. I think in the end, its what each person makes of where they go. Some may excel in 1 company, where others fail, for 1 reason or another. Bad attitudes, driving records while with said company. Is far too many variables involved everywhere. Don't pay much attention to sites, where everyones griping about this company or that 1. Maybe some/most, need to look in the mirror, to see the REAL reason, they didn't do so well, where they are or were at. It's all about perspectives, It's what YOU make of it that counts, not some bad reviews from disgruntled ex-employees whining about it, and not being accountable for what THEY do/done @where-ever

EXACTLY what StevoReno said; but I'll also add; what companies TO AVOID?!?!? Ones that encourage you to go LEASE, right out out of the gate. None of the ones represented within these walls, are such.

Best wishes, hope this helps!

ps: If you'll at least add your 'state' in your residence, some of us have some 'gems' we could/would share!!

On most sites you will receive multiple answers. Not here necessarily. For example Western Express catches a lot of flack, but Old School excelled there. Swift catches bs also but the majority on here speak very highly of Swift. Stevens also, I can personally say they are a great training company not without faults. It is what you make of it. Dont be a sheep and tag along with the naysayers. Do you have your cdl or looking to go company sponsored? Lots of info here on TT. I as well as Anne know of a few training companies not mentioned here Holla!!!

That's entirely true. Our company has no problem finding 'new hires' in Chicago .. Ohio, nsm, haha!

Trans Am is W2 . . . and push leasing REALLY hard. I'm hoping that Alisa (in the Ladies' forum) doesn't get sucked in.

Honestly, I don't even KNOW if Chickie Monster did lease, starting with TransAm. She left here, for her own 'Twitter' channel, when she and the fam went to CalArk.

I sure DO have mad respect for the female drivers, up in here. I'm aspiring to be one, lest my arm behooves me. Ashley Loucks, on Tweet'er. Kearsey's link, below.

A GREAT friend of mine & Tom's .. Scottied67, started w/Swift. Trained FOR Swift. Moved on, wanted freedom. Got on with JCT (John Christner) & they screwed him SO HARD with only 9 months left on his L/P . Yeah. Since then, he's done a flatbed/HH gig in the PNW (where he hails from,) and is now HAPPILY with Wilson. Company. (He's probably 'lost' as much as he's earned, with the JCT hiccups. All over his Y/T channel. It's still up, if y'all care to hunt for the video.) I still cry when I watch it.

So, there's another one, to stay away from, OP! Wish JRod (from GOE) would stop in; he's a 'suit' and he STILL will advise against lease!

Anyone remember THESE guys ?!?!?! Lobos Interstate Services. They tried to take Brett for a ride.

Others have mentioned, Freymiller and KLLM 'push'.. as well. I really don't know.

ps: Good stuff, for the O/P: Truckin' Along w/Kearsey ! She has SO MANY for/against L/P's ... and the documents to back it!

Yessir, Mi Mano! Don't know if you were around in the 'Lobos' days. READ that THREAD I linked! ^^^^^

Sure as heck; you & I have a few 'diamonds' in the 'rough' to share around. Always!

Wonder if Noel will even stop back, after all the time we put in ?!?!?!?

Always,

What is leasing?

Also, the truck driving school I'm going to start next month uses trucks with automatic transmissions. Are most trucks now automatics?

What is leasing?

Brief answer: similar to leasing a car. Your payment will be less than purchasing, may have a buyout at the end of lease. YOU are responsible for fuel/maintenance on the truck. Definitely NOT recommended for a new driver just starting out.

The trucking industry is moving toward automatics. Many of the mega carriers, and a lot of smaller carriers, are already fully auto or nearing fully auto in their fleets. If you test out in an automatic, that "E" restriction means you cannot drive a truck with a manual transmission. It isn't nearly as big a concern now as it was even a few years ago, and there is a pathway that you can get the restriction removed later if you need to.

We had a driver in our class, who was a current driver for a large carrier, taking a refresher course to test out in a manual and get his "E" restriction removed. He had gotten some experience at his current job, had found another company he wanted to drive for, that only ran manuals.

Yes, most trucks are AMT. (auto mated transmission), commonly called Autos. And if you are new, that is definitely what you want. Hopefully,, your school has AMT’S for you to train in.
