Well,it's like the topic says. I can't find a DR. Or psychiatrist to do a.one time mental eval so that I can go back to CDL school with a job afterwards) Stevens Transport) and it's been a not fun journey trying to find one. I had went to a clinic for minor depression as an outpatient and I put that down on the med card sheet that you sign..looking back I shouldn't have done that as that was years and years ago. Not on meds (was on them for about 6 months) now and I am fine but I just can not find anyone to do n evaluation. Any help is appreciated folks.i have my learners permit for CDL but I can't drive on the roads without a med card. The health part is fine it's just the mental they are asking for.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

What state do you reside? Someone may know of a clinic that may be able to help. I have a couple people close to me that have recently seen a psychiatrist. The wait list in my area is around 5 months for adults and over a year for a psychiatrist that specializes with children. Is your primary doctor able to sign off on it?

As much as I dislike Reddit or any other forms of social media, you may have better success finding a doctor using that website. Just look up your state "subreddit" and ask if anyone has recommendations.

Good luck finding someone to help you with the eval. Please keep us updated on how things turn out.

If you get a chance, ask one of them what was all involved with start to finish if possible.

The process was pretty straight forward for them, they called and setup an appt and just needed to wait until they could be seen. Unfortunately covid screwed with alot of people's mental health and now they're crazy busy. They were both seen and diagnosed with ADHD. The cost was $425 for the initial hour visit but insurance knocked it down to $311. They've had a couple follow up virtual visits to discuss meds and if they need to try something else and those ran about $100 cheaper.

Howdy, and welcome!

As Rob mentioned above, there are STILL so many on line doctors (virtual MD's, etc...) since Covid's wrath, it's almost overwhelming. If you can't find anything 'local' that costs less than a fortune, I would HIGHLY suggest perusing the internet for an online consultation/evaluation. Many of these are hosted simply with a Zoom call. I've got a doctor (currently) for my shoulder injury that is totally online; in addition to my physical therapist, in person. I've never met the virtual one, either. My son had an injury awhile back, and at 0200 (a.m.) we found a doc for him, via the internet, for $99.00.

If nothing else is working for ya, it's worth a shot. (No pun intended; they can't do that via Zoom, anyway.)

Hope this helps! Just spend some time on Google.

In the meantime, here's some 'good reading' for you:

Found what I was looking for!! An article in a newspaper we subscribe to, mentioned ESPYR. They are directly related/somehow with, the DOT.

Here's the article: Fit to Pass! Scroll down to the 3rd paragraph, but the whole ARTICLE is beneficial to ALL truckers!

The ESPYR program actually officiates in Marietta, GA; so, that helps.

O/P, you should put your location IN your profile, for better assistance.

Here's more on ESPYR: Espyr, Myndful, and EAP's ~ (Employee Assistance Programs.)

Hope we've helped a bit; stop back!

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Thanks, BK .. and you're welcome!

I bookmarked that awhile back, for another TT member; can't recall whom. I agree, it IS awesome; wish we could somehow better SHARE it w/our members here of TT.

Brett would enjoy something like that as well; as would many. I've got it bookmarked, myself.

Thanks, BK. Agree!

ps: Even if the O/P doesn't read it . . . even beyond the ESPRY and MYNDFUL . . . it's worth the five of time.
