I have had a couple of bad experiences in the quest to get my CDL and was wondering if anyone could offer advice. I was supposed to begin training with one company and at the last minute they said that I had a moving violation from 2018 that was set to drop off in a month and then I could reapply. I waited a month and reapplied and they then told me that they would not be able to move forward at this time. So, I applied at another company. I was set to leave for training on Saturday October 8 and begin training on the 10th. They sent me my bus ticket along with several emails welcoming me to the {company name} family. I spoke with a woman from the company yesterday to go over what to expect from training and I was ready to go. This morning, I received a call saying that they were no longer going to be able to offer me a position in training because of the moving violation from 2018. I asked him why, when we had spoken at the beginning of this whole process, and he knew at that time of my driving record, he had said that since it was more than 3 years ago, it wouldn't be a problem, but all of a sudden, it is now a problem. All he said was "That's what they told me". This is leaving a really bad taste in my mouth, and I am wary to apply elsewhere because I really don't want to get my hopes up again, only to have them totally dashed right and I am getting ready to start training. Does anyone have a similar experience and/or advice on why this keeps happening?
Welcome to TT. You will have to identify what this moving violation is in order for anyone here to be of assistance in the way of advice.
A simple speeding ticket shouldn't be a problem, unless it hasn't been resolved. A reckless driving ticket would be something that could pose a problem. Running a red light is another example of something that could be a problem. So, what's the moving violation from 2018?
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
This is akin to saying something like, "I don't have a job. I will not apply anywhere because I may not get hired."
Seriously, this is the free enterprise system. Companies can hire, or not hire, anyone at their discretion. There are thousands of companies to choose from, so if you want to pursue a driving career, keep applying.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Truth is... Any "job offer" is really only an invitation to go to orientation. The entire training period is an evaluation. Attitude could send you home. Prime will send someone home for "not prime material". Boisterous. Profane or liars... People who blame every one else but themselves. Happens all the time.
Reading this just rings too me a piece of the puzzle is missing.
First of all if he is talking about large companies the “they” are the safety dept. They are the ones making the final decisions on hiring, where issues surface.
There could be one or more of several reasons why a recruiter may think something will fly, but the safety dept will say no.
I’m a little concerned since this appears to have happened twice with the same outcome. I’m going to guess details that were put on the application and/or verbally discussed may have not alined with whatever docs are available on the incident. We have no where near all the details.
Apply everywhere and see who makes an offer.
Be upfront and completely honest and someone may give you a shot.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

I had a similar thought, which really had me believing that it's a major moving violation that was minimized on the applications. I just don't see something 4 years old being an issue, if it's minor.

The "why" is..because it can. Did you minimize the severity? Misquote the month it was resolved?
What is your location, at least your state?? Many folks will help you as we (they) can, just a bit more info would help "us" help you.

The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
Here's a question.... Did you have something expunged and not reveal it? This happens all the time. The person thinks it won't be found and no need to disclose. Not true. They will find an expunged DUI.

One thing I don’t think many newer drivers take into account is that while the companies they’re trying to get their start with might say they only look at the previous 3 years or whatever, they can pull an abstract and see everything dating back to the first day you started driving as an adult. If they see a pattern in violations, no matter how minor, they can determine that person as a potential risk.
