We have had a tremendous atmospheric river storm hit us with small areas of flooding in NorCal but I-80 is a big mess now and has been closed down for several hours with no estimated time of reopening. Just a head's up if you headed that way. Winds have also picked up.

Michael is supposed to head to Utah early in the morning but will wait it out at a lower elevation.

Thank you Harvey. I'm in Lyman Wyoming for my 10 hours. I had planned on going over Donner's on Monday. Hopefully it will be cleared up by then.

Bad weather creating poor driving on Donner Pass during the Winter months? You could post this every few days from November through March.

This is more of an epic event that takes place about once every 5 years. I'm in the valley and we've been running on generator for 12 hours. I don't understand all of the technical terms but the moisture content of the atmospheric river was estimated to be at record levels.

Happy New Year Harvey. Be safe…sounds like a whole lotta fun.

Thank you and to you also. Skies are clear today. The recent storms hasn't caused any flooding for us but some areas have been evacuated with some rivers above flood stage. Most reservoirs are low and able to hold all of this water easily but Folsom Dam is making significant releases as this storm started out warm, even flooding out a ski lift area at Kirkwood (a high level ski resort) before it turned to snow. Exciting!

Michael is awaiting instructions as he had planned to be over I-80 by now but still closed.

Well, I would rather tackle Donner than be around the Buffalo, NY area with the lake effect blizzards those residents have encountered already this winter.

I do love how the new agenda is to come up with dramatic terms to classify weather. Atmospheric River,,,,, so it’s gonna rain a lot and cause some abnormal flooding. Arctic Bomb Cyclone,,,,, high winds, cold temps, lots of snow. Holy crap, it’s winter!!!!!!

I agree, and don't forget "Snowmageddon" and "Polar Vortex"! Those two combined are what I've always heard pronounced BLIZZARD. It's winter so there should be cold temperatures and snow.
