Hey Drew,
I just came across something in my email that may be of interest to you. Pride Transport runs Line haul OTR and Western 11 OTR with drivers out of ID. They pay .57 to .60 pm, depending on experience. It might be worth looking into.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.
LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.New! Check out our help videos for a better understanding of our forum features
So many topics on such a deceptively short thread. Deciding to leave and knowing where you go next are two different things. I suggest you use this extra time to research companies that would be a better fit. Read what you can about them, strike up a conversation with one of their drivers if you see one at the truck stop and learn all you can. When you and a recruiter work out a start date with your new company THEN you can quit the old one. Heck, I've taken an uber from the Freightliner dealership in Cedar Rapids when my truck was broke down to take a drug screen in Cedar Rapids for a new job in Washington.
Make a list of the things you want that you're not getting now. When I started out my first list included all the unpaid labor, having to ask for permission to get an UNPAID day off (unless you're broke down or on a reset in BFE then it's fine), imaginary trailer hunts, waiting for a load, camper loads and sharing my truck with a trainee. I decided that my best bets would be linehaul or dedicated.
There's plenty of freight around Caldwell. I would caution you that there is one company in Caldwell with a ridiculous accident rate (>140 accidents last year out of a fleet of 200 drivers). (They combined incidents with accidents for their total but didn't break down the details). I suggest you check any potential employer's accident rate.
