I recently graduated from trucking school and haven't made a decision as to who I want to work for. I had my mind made up with CT Transportation and had spent half a day in their orientation, but had to return home because of fear of sleep apnea. I've had my sleep study done and haven't heard from the company regarding my results. I've been at home for 2 weeks now and Knight has piqued my interest. I really like what they offer and may choose them instead. My father-in-law is about to be hired as a trainer for CRST and wants to bring me in there. Any one from either company have any info on their respective company?

Sleep Apnea:

A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.

In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.

It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Excluding your father, what company fits your needs better?

Make a long list of what you desire from a company and see which one of these companies fits your needs better?

Hometime? Both companies offer hometime. I don't know where you live but Knight does offer many regional opportunities with weekly/bi-weekly hometime.

Equipment? Just about the same.

Both do primarily dry van.

Honestly, the biggest question I would ask myself if this

"Would I be fine with team driving?

Why? Because CRST requires their drivers to team drive. So with CRST you won't be a solo driver you'll be a team. This is fine with some and not fine with others. All depends on you, I cannot answer this for you.

Also, don't join a company just because your father-in-law works for them and is willing to train you. This is your decision, don't let anyone take that away from you. Having family train you is a blessing and a curse.

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

I really don't want to run team. I would rather run solo and get the experience first. Knight, I know, is in Charlotte, NC and I stay 45 minutes away. The recruiter told me I could run regional. I have a 10 month old daughter and I want to see her grow and develop so their home time is perfect for that. I'm really leaning towards Knight. I just want to be sure that I'm choosing the best fit.
