I've spent the last 6 weeks filling in for someone on maternity leave. His run was a meet for about 2,700 a miles a week and pretty much never was canceled.

He comes back today, so I'm back on the extra board today and have already been called off due to lack of work.

I wish I could go back in time and take a scheduled run instead of the extra board. I would be working a lot more, at least this time off will give me a chance to work on my time machine.

That sucks!

May you catch a multitude of fish while you endure this moment in time.

I hope your work picks up soon Bobcat. good-luck.gif

Too bad you and Banks don’t live near each other for the fishing thing.

So, are you considering changing things up in any way? Or will you wait things out?

I am going to wait things out, I have enough seniority to get a different run when we bid again. I just screwed up and took a morning extra board spot at the wrong time.

They are telling us it will pick up in August and September so I just have to ride it out till then.

That stinks. I had my load for 2am this morning canceled. I just got another one that picks up in Newark, NJ. I don't like driving into Newark.

Why did you bid on the extra board in the first place? Was it bc you thought you'd be more likely to get loads? Was it bc you were hoping to get a little more variety instead of doing the same thing every week?

I've noticed quite a few more linehaul drivers running between Des Moines and Minneapolis the past couple weeks. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come for ya.

Linehaul:

Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.

That is a bummer!! It’s a sign of the times we are currently in. Things do change rapidly in this business.

I'm gonna come out of the shadows because I can relate. I was on Xtra board for a while and things were good. But when the geezers come back from medical leave it can get rough if you're low on the totem pole. I had to just take a shorter run so I at least have something. There are some guys that aren't as lucky unfortunately.

I lost the run I had to someone with more seniority, bidding this run allowed me to stay at a similar start time. Plus, I talk to the drivers who had it before me, they were making the same money I was but doing it less time, since they didn't have the traffic in Indiana to deal with.

Going different places is also a nice perk to a degree. I've seen enough 80/94 and 65 for a lifetime. Wanted to switch it up a little.
