Hello everyone, I am currently looking into the Commercial Trucking Industry as a career. However, I find myself wondering whether or not I would qualify to work at any company.

Currently I am 25. When I was 18 I got arrested for a few drug charges (Possession w/ intent), however I was able to get out and get the charges dismissed and was found not guilty. These charges show up on my record, stating everything I mentioned. "Incarcerated, plead not guilty case dismissed." I wont be able to get a full pardon until 2026. Will I have to wait until then to get into the industry, or has someone else been able to build a career with a similar record?

In my experience when background checks are done on me its pretty much 50/50 on how the interpretation goes. Sometimes I get approved for things like apartments and jobs without issue. Sometimes, however, I get denied because of my record. So my question is whether or not someone else has a similar past or record and currently works in the commercial trucking industry. Will my record of drug charges, despite being dismissed, keep me from having a job in this industry?

Based on my search results, it seems that having a criminal record may not necessarily disqualify you from working in the commercial trucking industry. However, it may depend on the specific company and the nature of the charges. Some companies may have strict policies against hiring individuals with criminal records, while others may be more lenient.

Since you were found not guilty and the charges were dismissed, it’s possible that your criminal record may not be a significant barrier to employment. However, it’s important to be honest about your criminal record when applying for jobs in the commercial trucking industry. You may also want to consider obtaining a copy of your criminal record to see what information is being reported.

It’s not what you were charged with, it’s what you were convicted of that matters.
