How long is a trailer inspection good for? There has been a couple times on my new journey that the trailer needed an inspection and we would have to pull it down the road to get it inspected.

The same 1 year that the tractor DOT inspection is good for. Cover your behind and send a message to dispatch: "Trailer DOT inspection expired. Taking it to (nearest Loves/Petro/TA etc) before moving further."

Will a DOT officer having a bad day let you skate with that? Probably not. Will an officer having a great day, inspecting the rest of your rig and finding no other issues let you take it to get inspected? Possibly.

I have had to do this a handful of times in three years. The important part is that you inspected it, and it is safe to pull to the closest shop possible.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
