Starcar's reply to Serah:

They can accept you as a student...but turn you down, cuz they don't run freight into your home area !!!! Right now your in NJ....try applying and putting in your soon to be address...

I'm currently residing in South Florida (aka: New Cuba) and truly want to get out of here. I have absolutely no ties to this area and want to leave. Many companies may not hire me due to them not running freight to my home area, as mentioned in the quote above. I really don't care if I EVER come back to this area. Is there a way that you know of, that I can let prospective employers know that I'm NOT INTERESTED in HOME TIME, and to overlook that in their determination? Moving and renting a new apartment is out of the question, but I DO have an Orlando address that I may be able to use (North Florida may make it easier).

I have no need to go "home", ever. My "home" time would be spent someplace that the road has taken me. Rent a room or something for the time, then be on my way.

Thoughts?

That's a tough one. Some companies will let you take home time wherever you specify as your home, other companies require your license to be in the state you take your home time.

I really don't know what to say other than to speak with some recruiters and see what their policy is.

The problem stems from the fact that a lot of people say that when they want to get a way from a certain place. But later down the road it always comes back that they need to get back home because something just popped up and it's something that needs to be taken care of now so your company is force to get you into the area at their cost due to no freight in that area.

Now you may think this does not apply to you and it very well may not but those other several thousands of drivers before you thought the same thing also. So companies decide they would rather not have to deal with it and don't hire from certain areas. The Dekotas have many many companies hiring new drivers for the oil fields. That could be an option and do that long enough till you get the money saved up to move to another state.

My parents and their siblings have long since passed away, I'm not married and have no children. I have distant cousins, whom I've not seen, nor have I been in contact with for over thirty years (at this point, it's the same as not having any). I have only one person that is considered a close friend, and he is moving north to Virginia by the end of this year. So you see, I really do not have a reason to ever come back to this "threshold to Hell" (thank you Clark Griswold)!

But I do understand the companies point of view as you've described. I'll just have to figure a way to get a local address. I hear Sedona, AZ is a nice place to live…

Would your friend in Virginia let you establish an address at his place? Some of the experienced folks may want to chime in if it's feasible, but it should give you more job options. And yes Sedona, AZ is absolutely gourgous.

Thanks Weatherman. Yes, once he moves there, he'll let me use it, but as I mentioned, it won't be until sometime late this year. I'm hoping to get to company training within the next month or two.

You said that you have a friend moving up north to Virginia. ......if ya look at our history By God Virginia is a southern state. Lol just had to through that in there. Don't be associating southern states with them there damn yankees.

Even if your geographic location is south of Virginia you say you are moving south to Virginia. Never add the north to Virginia. Thems be fightin' words youngin'. Lol. All that to defend a state that pretty much can't stand truck drivers and I live in Arkansas.

Yeah we know who won but as with any war 9 times out of 10 the better equipped and better supplied army wins.
