Passed my CDL learner's permit test along with the Tanker and Hazmat endorsement written tests. In Alabama the HAZMAT test is good for 1 year so after I get my license and transfer it back to Alabama, I will be able to add that endorsement to my license.

Gonna be a VERY LONG bus ride from where I am. Question regarding the bus trips...... How are meals done while traveling by bus?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Randy, if you just want to buy your meals that bus will be making plenty of stops at places where there will be some sort of food available. I literally spent hundreds of hours on multiple bus trips when I got started in trucking. There will at times be snack machines available, and at other times fast food type restaurants. What I did was to start my bus trip with a couple of sack lunches and some fruit packed in my carry on bag and when I got the urge I would just break something out and start eating. I have seen all kinds of food preparations on the bus, even a small family who brought a full sized cooler on with them with enough food in it to feed them for the three days they would be on the bus while moving to a new state.

Great. That's what I needed to know. I'll have plenty packed for the trip. Thank you!
