Name's Victor and I'm new to this site. A lot of great info here and many thanks to Brett and everyone else that has put it together, maintained it, and contributed to it.
Here's a little about me:
I retired from the U.S. Navy in 2006 after 22 years of service.
I drove refrigerated freight OTR for just under a year in 1988-1989 after my first military tour and then decided to reenter the Navy and finish my military career.
I've been teaching public school and working for the government for the past 6 years and have tired of the whole 'inside' job environment.
I've decided to reenter the trucking industry as a professional driver so I can move around, see different things, experience different places and generally be 'outside'. I much prefer the "solo, on my own", routine.
I'm currently scheduled to begin a CDL training program at Florida State College in Jacksonville, FL in May.
CDL:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
