In general what is the out of pocket cost for routine matinence on a semi? Also what does insurance cost, fees etc. Do you make more money using your own semi? Is it better to buy a used semi or a lease to own through your employer.

only thing i could prob answer is the deal with a lease. buying or leasing you are technically running your own business and as with any other business you need start up capitol and leasing to my knowledge allows you to do it with less start up capitol.

The upfront costs of buying a truck are high. You will have your down payment of about 10% of the total on the truck, insurance on the truck will run about $500. a month. maintenance depends on mile run..15k miles between services, at a cost of about $250.00 per service.Tires are a big concern and costly. Tags and permits will run you about $2500.00 per year.

Used trucks are sold fro one reason...they are USED...and used hard. everyone will have its own set of problems. And if you are not into diesel mechanics or mechanically inclined, you will be at the mercy of every shop in the countryside. Leased trucks make the lease company alot of money....not you.

But seriously, if you need to list everything you don't have enough money, or knowledge to get into it....you won't make much more than a company driver, with the migraines of a small business owner.
