Got a phone call today. Basically they wanted to know if we would be interested in pulling doubles during the summer season only and no hazmat. Of course I asked about the pay.
Turns out we would not be pulling doubles all the time. Just when ABF had a set that they needed to move and if we were the closest we would get the load.
We would continue to drive in our current fleet as normal with normal miles and if we touched one of their trailers we would be guaranteed 5500 miles that week even if we only did 3000 that week. Not to mention 500 dollars the extra just for hooking to their trailer. Heck. Extra way of making MORE revenue. So we said yes. Nothing really changes. Just sometimes pulling a few double and only during the dry warm weather.
We just had hometime a week ago and now have hometime again (tthis time business related and does not count against hometime) to study this weekend for the doubles endorsement and might as well get triples and tankers if I have the time. Not touching hazmat well because I don't want it.
SO the question remains where on earth would I find a place that is really good at teaching people the stuff they need to know to pass endorsement test?
HAZMAT:
Hazardous Materials
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
Doubles:
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
