Sweet, my favorite type of thread. Its nice helping out youngsters for a change instead of old.... oh nevermind.

Jonathan, you need to be 21 before you can cross state lines and before most companies will even consider you.

However, what you do until then can help you out. Try to work at warehouses that deal with truck drivers, work at truck washes, anywhere where you'll be alongside trucks. The more you see them the more comfortable you'll be when you finally step foot in one. Personally, when I was 18 I got a job driving power equipment (different types of forklifts), while thats nothing like a semi - it did give me some knowledge on how to safely operate heavy machinery.

I went into trucking school a week after I turned 21 (had to enjoy being legal first if you know what I mean) and have been doing it ever since! You'll love it.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
