Question ; I had planned to do a blow-by-blow account of the first training phase (it's called PSD here at Prime for Prime Student Driver) like a lot of people do. When you start with Prime (as I did ) it is completely different than truck schools and probable a lot different than many other company sponsored schools, although I can't say for sure. It was near imposable for me to post during the first 3 weeks so that's why I have not been around (not that anyone would have noticed, I'm sure) but it was so different from what I had expected that I want to do a sort of "Primer on Prime" for those of you who may be interested in pursuing a job with Prime, Inc (trucking company). My question is: should I make it a series of entries, one after the other, in this "General Information" section or should I make it an entry in the "Blogs" section? I want to really address many of the things that took me by surprise and while it may seem like I am being excessively egocentric, how do you write about what happens to you if you don't make it about you? I don't want to bore anyone and I don't want to preach but there is a thing called "world view" that colors all of our perceptions and forms the basis for most of our decision making so there will be a sprinkling of that sort of thing as well. After all, no one HAS to read it if it doesn't capture their attention, right? A little advice on this endeavor would be greatly appreciated . . .

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

PSD:

Prime Student Driver

Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.

The following is from Prime's website:

Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.

Obtain CDL Permit / 4 Days

  • Enter program, study and test for Missouri CDL permit.
  • Start driving/training at Prime Training Center in Springfield, Missouri.
  • Work toward 40,000 training dispatched miles (minimum) with food allowance while without CDL (Food allowance is paid back with future earnings).

On-the-Road Instruction / 10,000 Miles

  • Train with experienced certified CDL instructor for 3-4 weeks in a real world environment.
  • Get 75 hours of behind-the-wheel time with one-on-one student/instructor ratio.
  • Earn 10,000 miles toward total 40,000 miles needed.

Hey man....welcome back!!!!

I'd love for you to post about it in the diaries section - CDL Training Diaries for starters. And if you'd like to put together some of your writings into article format we could certainly post them in the Truck Driving Blogs section.

I'm sure you'll have a ton of interesting insights so I'd love to see you put down as much as possible. It's all going to be helpful to a ton of people - no question about it!

Welcome back, Jopa!!!!!

You should definitely put it all down! I, for one, am the type of person who has always tried to learn something from others experiences. It can give you that unique perspective on things in a way you might not have thought was even possible. Like when two people recall an event, yet they were viewing it from two different angles. They each might see something that the other didn't even know was there, or had happened. So, I look forward to reading about your journey thus far, and I will be along for the proverbial ride to its conclusion.

Great to hear from you! We missed your sense of humor!
