I just wanted to say I really struggle with driving 55 MPH, not only do I have to work hard at now speeding but the slow speed just makes me tired. I leave it on cruise at about 58 but the slightest down hill will force me to speed, such a pain these states are! Most drivers I talk to that live in my Home Area love running the West but I will running just about any state so long as its not Oregon or California.

I drive California all the and set my cruise at 59 to 60. The cops just pass me right by and don't even look my way.

At least most of Illinios went to 70 for the big trucks this year except for Crook county and the collar counties...

I started driving trucks in 94 and drove both local in Nor-Cal and OTR for a couple of years. The thing that burned me out and made the decision to stop driving was driving the I-5 corridor thru CA to WA. It was especially hard to drive thru OR as it was one of the few states that traffic merging onto the Interstate had the right-of-way. And those piles of crap knew it and wouldn't look over their shoulders or mirrors when merging.

Now I live in FL and am looking at getting back OTR with a company that doesn't drive West Coast or Northeast. Should be perfect. I've mellowed out alot since the 90's when I was in my twenties and full of energy. Those of you that drive I-5 for a living have my gratitude for doing so.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

TSB hates CA and OR...the speed limits irritate him...Me ??/ I set my cruise at 58 or so, set the jake to keep me from gaining going down hill...and I just sit back and cruise. It isn't the speed in CA i hate...its the EPA laws, the rotten drivers, and the law enforcement in general. They have scales that operate illegally, and they have been caught doing it...So trucks to them are a revenue generating freebie....THATS what I hate...And Oregon is no better...

Not sure about operating illegally, but the scales in Banning CA (I-10) were notorious for staying open 24-7 and not shutting down even when truck traffic was all the way stopped on the shoulder of the Interstate. They want every last truck to cross that scale. Truck scales are supposed to close when trucks start backing up to the interstate , but it seems that one in particular rarely closed. They say that the scales operate for "drivers safety" which in actuality is a guise for "Taking in revenue."
