Hey that is awesome news!!!!

How long is the training period on the road?

Four weeks, but it is up to the trainer's discrection. I am setting a goal for myself to be done in two weeks, unless I really like, and am learning tons of stuff from the trainer, then I will work with him to make it last four weeks. The trainer gets paid .10 per mile to train. They have a row, I don't know how many, of NEW 2014 Pete 587's just WAITING to be seated!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if I get assigned a 2012 or '13, that would be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The terminal is in a office building shared by other tenants. The May office is nice, the drivers lounge has comfy couches, a big flat screen TV, and nice bathrooms. One thing Ive noticed is everyone is very friendly to the actual drivers that pull into the yard to drop and hook trailers. The safety mgr. goes up to each truck and talks with the driver and calls them by their first name. Same goes for the driver orientation mgr. I briefly talked with a dispactcher, she seemed nice, had a smile on her face. We will be talking with them as a group on Thursday, as well as the Trainer Supervisor. I will keep you updated. Thanks. G MAN

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

Yeah. I'm officially hired with May! I go out with the trainer tomorrow for 2-4 weeks. It could be as little as one week, but I want to learn as much as I can. So far I'm very impressed with May. They are BIG on safety. It is built into the culture. The people seem nice. I've talked with my future DM too and he seems on the ball, friendly. Thanks all.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Wow, awesome news again! You're just rolling right along. Definitely looking forward to hearing how you like training on the road. This is when the real truckin begins. Hopefully you'll have a ton of fun.

Then comes the big time - solo!!!
