I went to Prime with my class A permit, studied the pre-trip on the pad for days, went out with a trainer, and was let go after 5 days. I did not want to lease and my recruiter kept telling me I had to lease. My trainer told his manager with Prime I was untrainable and would not listen. What a bunch of crap. I drove a school bus for 19 years and I was never wrote up for not doing the job correctly. I had 4 cameras and a GPS on my bus. If I was such an idiot I'm sure it would have been recorded. My trainer was an unhappily married man looking to change jobs. He told me and I heard him talking on the phone while he was driving. Prime Inc. does not want company drivers. They want to lease you a truck. Guess who owns the company where the trucks come from. The owner of Prime Inc.

Dawn all I can say is do a lot of research. The men seem to love Prime. There are some companies that have work well tests or pre hire physical ability tests. They seem to weed out some females based on ability to lift and move certain weights

Pre Hire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

I hear ya, Mikki! I got turned down for WIA funds because I have sales skills they said. That is true but the only sales jobs I can get are ones that pay 100% commission and it is just too difficult to make a living like that. I now have to decide whether I want to work 2 jobs to save up the money for the tech school or go to a company school. I am just concerned with leaving my job to go to a company school and then getting bounced and sent home with no job and little money. embarrassed.gif

So sorry to hear that. I was kind of dead set against company sponsored cdl , actually thought about selling my car!! Then if I got bounced no car no job! Eek. We are where we are supposed to be right? So the way I figure it, must be another lesson I am to learn lol. So I will cowgirl up and take the plunge, soon I hope. I also decided as big as Arizona is if I can't get trained here..... So no Roehl for me either. We will be fine I am sure of it! Keep me posted.

Everything happens for a reason is my thought. I may wait until spring at this point. In December I will be 5 years cancer free and will need to see my oncologist only once a year and that may just work out best. I am dealing with anemia too so maybe that will give us time to get a handle on that. On the plus side, while I was at my family dr. yesterday I was talking to her and she said she is able to do a DOT physical. I will check to make sure it isn't just for the state level but if she can that would make me feel so much better than going to a stranger! She was so encouraging and told me to just go for it! I love my doctors office! smile.gif Let me know what you decide and I will be your biggest cheering section!!!! dancing-dog.gif

DOT:

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

This is an open forum, so we can talk about anything we want,as long as its personal experience, not 3rd party information. I know that theres ALOT of companies that push leasing...its how they make the most money, with the least risk, and the least output......But its not how a new trucker...hell its not how ANY trucker, in this market today, should go. The profit margin is only 3%.....thats a HUGE risk for anyone going into any business. Step on out there and get your training thru a company....drive for them until your schooling is paid for, and then look to see where you want to be for the rest of your trucking career... And we will help you all we can....thats what we are here for !!
