I interview with Con-Way in the morning. He told me to bring my CDL and my SS card.

Should I expect anything?

A pre-trip inspection?

A road test?

Maybe even a written test?

I forgot these questions when he called because I was so excited.

Pre-trip Inspection:

A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.

Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Trucking interviews are and can be different from normal job interviews. I would go in expect to do all that. You may not do it but it's best to be prepared.

AAlso don't wear a formal business attire but don't go dress as a trailer park reject. My normal everyday other I where mostly is black cargo pants(like the pockets and emt's make they look cool) a collard Polo shirt different colors with a pocket and a good pair of black slip on shoes from Walmart.

Here is a pic I took last year before I started wearing the Polo shirts and before I had lost weight . I don't believe I being a sloppy dressing truck driver. And I can not stress this enough I DON'T EVEN OWN A PAIR OF SWEAT PANTS...

Got it. I'm one to want to raise the bar on the "dress-code" too. Don't own a pair of sweats, either. I think truckers like you make a great impression when they show up clean and clean-cut. I'm all for it.

Steel-toes are a nice $90 pair of Keens that just look like summer hiking boots - mainstay around here. Polo shirt is a great idea and won't be a problem. Got this.

Been studying my pre-trips again, and again.

I want this job very, very much. They have a nice newbie package and I'm so ready to work.

Off to sleep.

Guy, thank you so very much for your advice and input. I really, truly appreciate it.
