OK not to sound stupid here but I am engaged to a long haul driver. He is amazing and Drivers as you know are given a bad name and its not right. Here is my question I do not want to stress him out as your jobs are very high stress and I know it. So I hope someone can answer this for me. It takes days sometimes for him to txt and weeks before I get a couple minutes to see him. I will drive to a truck stop just to spend a hour with him I dont care what people think. Is this normal ! I guess I figure that if he is not driving he is bored but maybe this is not what happens. Can someone help me with this. We have completely different lives I am a HR person and he a driver but he is the best andI do not want to ever screw this up. So help.

Thanks so much ladies

Its like in any relationship....play it by ear. Most of the time, when a driver is stuck in a truck stop, to either wait for a load, or he's out of driving hours....theres 3 things to do...sleep...go in the truck stop to shower, shop,sit,eat....or sit in the truck, watch tv, read, or be bored. Now I don't know ANY drivers who would pass up seeing their significant other any time they can. Think of it as kinda "dropping by" his place of work. But change it up a little, take him something that he can't get out on the road...besides you..lol. Homemade food is ALWAYS a huge hit. Maybe a new book, if he reads, a DVD if he has a tv. Just a little something to say, your thinking of him. Don't overload him with stuff that he either doesn't have room for, or won't be able to eat before it goes bad. I have been known to bake cupcakes, and after they are cool, make a slit in them and put a little note in them, then ice them. Make the paper pretty stiff, so he doesn't choke on it...lol. I have been known to take massage oil, and give TSB a good massage...he loves 'em, but only by me. So theres some ideas for ya...and just for the record, when I was dating TSB, I drove over a mountain pass, in the dark, after the police had closed the road, so I could spend a night with him....Worst road trip I'd ever taken...Us ladies are kinda crazy like that....

Thanks for the note I appreciate it. i love little truck stop visits too, it gives me a little minute to be with him. I thought it was only me that would drive to hell and back to see him. It doesn't matter to me. It just gets a little scary when I dont here a thing from him. I again appreciate the note . Be safe and take care.

Sam, you just stick around here and read, and ask any questions you'd like..you fit right in here,,and your trucker will wonder where you get all your "trucker smarts"....lol

I too have a trucker friend that has been driving for 17 years. He does talk on the phone some, but after being on the road for 17 years he is used to the alone time, he listens to a lot of music and audio books. Sometimes I get on his nerves wanting him to check in or calling just to see if he is "ok". Not that he cares, he just gets lost in his world. So I have learned to back off a bit and if I really need to talk to him I call, other wise I wait until he calls. Schedules are so erratic that he may be driving at noon one day and be sleeping at noon the next day. Just play it by ear. I will be starting my own driving career soon and that will prove to be even more difficult, but in the long run it is what is best for me and him. Good Luck and feel free to go through all the blogs and Links on TT, it will give you lots of insite to what he is doing and going through. I was amazed at how much nore there is to being an OTR Driver, that just driving, lol.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Thanks for your help ladies I appreciate it. So I talked to my guy yesterday he asked me to marry him. I'm very happy. I am ex military so I know how it sucks to be without the one you love, I just have to remember all the negative crap ppl say isn't true. Just afraid to be hurt as everyone else. I trust and believe in him. He has the ability to wait for me as I do him that's why it works right. I don't want him txtn and driving or calling when he is driving. So I just have to worry quietly. Special K your right it is hard not to know but its safer. You girls are amazing thank you, you get in Toledo love to see ya. The truck stop is 2 miles from me.

Sam, The only thing tougher than bein' a trucker....is bein' a trucker's wife.... If you can get past the loneliness...If you can get past the jealousy....If you can get past the worry...Then you have the makin's of bein' a truckers wife. Its a hard life, and I won't tell ya that its even worth it. Thats one reason I became a trucker, so I could be with TSB more. That, and I love to drive.....drive anything that moves...so it was a good fit for me. And I think that as we get older, the loneliness is appreciated, cuz we get more independent...I know I did. But the "other woman" is a jealous broad....so just know that you will always have to share him with the sirens of the open road...unless you start to hear the same song.
