Lol! Rookie hazing heh. I kinda expected it, but I'm a tech geek so I like looking up gadgets and wanted more to check out ;)
See? You just needed an excuse to get a new toy. Just no geeking and driving. I think the only way you're allowed to use a phone is if you have a blue tooth; otherwise no phone. A few of my instructors wore theirs all the time but no hand-held phone use. No holding hands, either. Both on the wheel. LOL.

C'mon, guyjax! Jump right in. We wanna' feel the LOuuuVE.

Yep I knew it was hands free. Not an excuse to buy a new toy, just dream of buying new toys lol. As my parents used to say I have champagne taste on a beer budget lol
On the map book thing: Be sure you invest in a map book that is for Motor Carriers. I just bought a really neat-o, cool-o, bad-a$$ Rand McNally Deluxe (gotta' be deluxe if you're gonna be a geek/nerd) Motor Carriers' Road Atlas at a Sapp Bros truck stop the other day. Every single page is laminated and it has everything you need: low clearance locations, bridge weight limits, weigh stations, DOT inspection list, fuel taxes, stuff about laws in every state, city-to-city distances, highlighted state and national designated routes, etc. US, CA, and Mexico stuff. It's the bomb. It cost about $36 but worth it.
I know there are lists of truck stops and their locations on the internet, too.

that atlas works great if you want to use white board markers to write on it. Ive got one myself (2012 version) still works.
Im old school, I like to map it and then i'll confirm it with GPS/Google maps off my phone.
The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

White board markers! What a great idea! (Hm. I wonder if you're prior service. You know we can't do without white boards) Yeah, I'd rather map it myself first and then GPS too.
White board markers....yeah
Ya' see, Jay B.? Geeks/nerds unite! Hm, now all I need is a pocket protector ....must start a shopping list ...
