Congratulations Gunner!
Trust me Gunner, there's gonna be a few days where you will want to quit and go back home, everybody experiences that. Hang in there when it seems like you made the wrong decision. Training is just a tough time with all the stress and everything totally new. Living in that truck with a total stranger for about four weeks can get old real fast. You will learn so much that it is a total overload - I remember that I was running on adrenaline so much of the time that I would forget to eat sometimes, and ended up losing about fifteen pounds.
All in all it is a phenomenal experience, and you will see so much that it will all start to blur together. It's the start of a new career for you, and a good solid steady paycheck too! Hang in there!
DUuuuude! I saw a KLLM truck today and wondered about you! You are on your WAY, Man! Congratulations on your decision and I wish you the best of luck!
Just think of your temporary separation as a rekindling of the old flame.

...and ...Be safe on your road trip to TX.

I have made it through FFE Academy. On my 6 week otr training. Everything has gone good. First week been from Lancaster Tx to Salt Lake to Ontario CA to Burlington NJ now. Waiting on load back to Lancaster TX. Been able to drive about half the time. Learned a lot in 4 weeks. 51 and starting a new career. What a trip.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Well, I finally made my decision. I'm going with FFE/KLLM. Gonna take a little road trip and drive out to TX for the refresher course starting on the 21st. 1 week refresher and then 6 weeks on the road for training. It looks like they have an amazing training facility out there. Anyway, really excited but a little nervous too. It's been a while since my wife and I have been apart so we are both gonna have some of that good ole' separation anxiety for a bit. Guess that is what Facetime and Skype are for, huh??
Thanks to everyone for all the great advice. If it had not been for this site I really would not have known where to begin and probably would have blown 6K going through a private school again, just to get a license I already have and then have to go thru the same application process anyway.
Good luck to anyone finally getting started.
