Hi--Love the site, it's been very helpful and informative.

I'm 24 and looking to get started as a truck driver, and I was wondering if there are any companies in New Jersey that will pay for CDL training and then hire me. All of the companies that I've looked at on this site have training facilities in other states, but I can't feasibly leave the area for 3-5 weeks to get my license. Anyone have any insight?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

CR England had a training site there in Burlington, NJ about 10 years ago. Not sure if they are still there but couldnt hurt to call and ask. Be very careful and read up on them though before choosing CR England.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
