Josh, Crete / Shaffer was my first choice before landing a job w/ an LTL company. I can verify that they do not need experience, but that you'll have to graduate from a school that is approved. Not sure why they told you 4 months. Some of the recruiters i spoke w/ at Shaffer were a little vague at times, some seemed to not know how to answer some of my questions - you'll probably have that at any large company, don't let that dissuade you. All you need to do is check w/ a recruiter to make sure your school is accepted, simple. Shaffer pays well during training and they have good equipment. Weatherman, a member on this forum, used to drive for Crete so he can give you some info.
Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.

Yeh the recruiter says they can take me on because I'm prior military and they wave the approved schools criteria, so any school is okay.
I'm trying to decide between Shaffer and Melton. I talked to Larry on here about Melton and he likes it there, now just trying to find a current Shaffer driver to talk to.
Thanks

I contacted Shaffer my second week of truck driving school and was told they require 4 months of experience. They were #1 on my list. I got my CDL on Thursday and decided to apply again. I think it was Brett that said that trucking companies might be more lax on their hiring criteria this time of year, so thanks Brett! They called me back today and are interested in bringing me on!
Would like to touch base with some Shaffer drivers and see how you guys are doing with them.
My #2 is Melton if Shaffer falls through and I've heard nothing but good things about them, actually scheduled for orientation on Monday in OK but Shaffer seems like a really good opportunity as well, especially since my heart was kind of set on pulling reefer.
Thanks y'all! Josh
