Welcome Rafael, I work at KLLM. We have a terminal there somewhere. Haven't been to it. I worked at Roehl Transport who also has a terminal there. Both are goid companies, in my opinion. First of all in this business income = miles so keep in mind the more hometime you get the less money you make. Having a young family makes this career very very difficult. Do yourself a huge favor. Read through the site here about trucking and share every single bit of it with your wife . This decision will effect you both, so you both need to make the decision jointly. I wish you the best
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
I know there is a drop yard in Fontana the prime and several other companies use. I have been there several times. They even have a bobtail section for parking your tractor when you go on your home time.
"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.
Hey Rafael. Welcome! First off I understand where you're coming from, I'm married with a four and two year old at home. I certainly didn't want to go over the road either. I unfortunately don't know your area but I will say this. You can find something local. Maybe not with the big national companies but it's possible. Check with food service places out dairies. Usually you'll be doing some sort of hands on delivery when you go local but it is what it is. And also, don't be afraid to apply even if it asks for experience. The worst they can say is no, and if it's not an insurance requirement and they need help you may just get in. Call around and ask questions about if they'll hire rookies or if they're willing to train you. Only problem with this route is you'll have to obtain your cdl through a private school. Which can be quite expensive. But if you have the funds I would say go for it.
Good luck to you!
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Hi everyone, I live in the fontana, CA. Im very interesting in starting my career in the trucking industry, but my current challenge is I have a wife two daughters 7 and 8 years old and a newborn because of this ideally local work would be best, however most require at least one year experience. Are there any companies that can offer more frequent home time and opportunity for local? Ive looked at Werner, gordon, kkw, schneide, kllm and prime, can you guys advice on any of the above? Thanks!!
