What an awesome experience. I tested out early last week and now am a CDL holder in the state of TN, what in the world were they thinking. I have jumped through all the hoops and will take my tanker and hazmat endorsement test on Friday. To everyone on TT, you all have been a wealth of knowledge and I hope someday I can contribute.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Thanks everyone. At this point in time, the only thing I can contribute is, to those in school or thinking about school, be patient!!!! Not only with yourself, but the truck. Don't get frustrated !!! I was told, one day it will all click in your head. You will be shifting or backing and it will just happen one day and it's like, "wow" that went smoothly. And I guess the most important thing to me, stay teachable and stay humble. I'm learning new things everyday and am grateful for the wealth of knowledge everyone shares to further me along.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
