Some companies let you take it home and some don`t. The company I drive for has a yard near my home that I park it in. If you can take it home and the neighborhood has a "NO TRUCKS!" policy (I would never live in such a neighborhood), you can usually find somewhere to drop your trailer and bobtail it in.
"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.
Kind of a basic question, how do you get home? Do companies let you drive the tractor home and if so where do you park it if your neighborhood won't allow big trucks? I'm also going through the High Road Training and just read about driving a company vehicle for personal use, is driving home consider personal use?
Once your home you are on home time. If you drive the truck as your personal vehicle that just might mess up your restart and besides most companies don't want you burning up the fuel on your home time.
Colleen, generally speaking if you live within 50 miles of a terminal they'll have you leave the truck at the terminal and you'll have to figure out how to get home. Either keep your personal vehicle at the terminal or have someone pick you up. Otherwise you'll be able to take your truck and trailer home with you. If you can't park it in your neighborhood then most people will either leave it at a truck stop, find an empty gravel lot somewhere, or get permission from a local business to park it out of the way.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Thanks guys. I hear you Rolling Thunder but ordinances are ordinances. My husband and I inherited our house from my mother-in-law.
