Hello truckingtruth can a trucking charge it's driver a expense fee each week? I thought the IRS were the only ones allowed to take money from your pay check? Best regards, Tim
Your going to have to be more specific with this. What exactly were you told is included in this expense fee?
They can for certain things. For instance, Prime Inc requires you to buy a lot of the equipment you need to secure flatbed loads and they take the money out of your check each week. I believe they reimburse you once you return the items.
Like Guyjax said, let us know what they're charging you for.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Pretty much they said for ezpass, prepass etc a charge of $2.50 dollars a week. I know it doesn't sound like a lot of money each pay check but to me that's crazy because all the other stuff you have to with lumpers, cat scales , trailer wash out, truck wash what ever else too.

At Roehl we pay $1.00 for pre-pass on tolls. You can opt out of it if you want, but then you have to pay the tolls and be reimbursed for them. In the limited amount of time I have been with my trainer, I can already see how it is worth having just due to the time savings alone.

We don't have this fee at Werner. But all the other stuff you mentioned is also paid for by the company.

Thank you to all who responded, I'm talking on behalf of company drivers. Does werner have any dollar general dedicated in New York State? Thanks
I have a Son that drives for a Wisconsin Company South and East and he gets paid by the mile. And he gets paid by the route they choose and if there is a toll on the route he has to pay for it out of his own pocket. If he has to go on the PA turn pick he has to go the long way around cause the company will not pay him back for the toll charge but that's the way he is paid. I feel it that if the route in which he is paid then the company should pay the toll. instead they deduct the extra miles off his pay. This is wrong
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

All of these type of expenses are normally paid by the lease operator (well, paid by the company and then they take it out of the settlements) because the lease operator is in business for themselves and responsible for all of the expenses ... however, company drivers should NOT have to pay these fees or if they do should be reimbursed by the company upon the driver's submittal of receipts ...
