I posted before about my son and his trainer.. Well things have improved and so far so good. He as been from one coast to the other. I am not sure that he will be finished training and in his own truck by Christmas or not.. He said he will need a truck gps,, but then heard the QUALCOMM will have gps in them next year? What other ideas would be good for truckers? I know he will want a tv eventurally? What size? what do you do for keeping food cold? small fridge? thanks

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Even though the Qualcomm has a GPS its still a good idea to get another truck GPS for just in case.. TV not really sure of what size but I'm sure can't go wrong with a 19 in. To start with... Tablet/laptop. Iceless cooler crock pot something to boil water in and a small fan that plugs in to the CIG lighter outlet.... Just some ideas

Rand MacNally's truck gps is recommended. There are several models. Here's a link to the RM store, but the units are available through other sources: http://store.randmcnally.com/truck-gps/truck-gps-devices.html

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

May i also recommend that maybe along with the GPS you get him the newest edition of the motor carriers atlas. If he doesn't already have it. Although the new truck gps with great you still see driver's blaming accidents on them because they followed them into a low bridge or something. At least having the atlas can help him trip plan better and also help him out of a bind.

Also maybe a dash cam if his company truck isn't already equipped with one.

Merry Christmas
