I woke up with that that thing in the back of the throat swollen so big it feels like a cowbell . . . can't swallow . . . at least I can still breath . . . any "My mother used to . . . " suggestions? Remember, the recommended 'material' must be available at a truck stop . . .

Try to gargle with some warm salty water. As salty as you can stand.

Poor baby. Just went thru a good two to three week flu here. Oregano oil ( Walmart?) Someone on here also once said Mucinex was ok for truckers? Honey and lemon tea. Actually put some cumin in it too maybe some ginger also available at a grocer near you. Hope you feel bttr. I took this tonic 2-3 times a day. Partner refused I got better way faster! I do have pretty good immunity though in my opinion!smile.gif

Hey Joppa, my standby for that is gargling hot sauce with vinegar in it (Tabasco, franks Red Hot, etc.) It must have cayenne pepper and vinegar. It will hurt a little, that's how you know it is working. I swear by it.

Ouch that happened to me a couple weeks ago. The only 2 things i did that may have caused it was the night before had an entire box of dominos pizza (too much salt) then I later gargled listerine for the first time in years. must've been one of those...found others online who had an allergic reaction to listerine which caused their uvula to swell up....i laid off salty food all day, drank 1.5 gallons of water to wash out the sodium, slept 8 hours and it went away by the next day afternoon. Good luck

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Jopa, I don't get sick very often but when things happen like you describe, I immediately take asprin. Not tylenol or advil. It does not cure the issue but it keeps a fever from getting started and takes away some of the discomfort. I think it makes my immune system think it is stronger than it is so it fights harder. It works for me but like I said, I don't get sick very often. Only use this once every 2-3 years. I think it has been 4 years this time since I have taken any asprin.

All this does is give your body a chance to fight it off. Remedies only treat the symptoms and the body has to cure it.

You aren't talking "undiluted" I hope, I can't imagine putting Tobasco in my mouth straight - let alone enough to GARGLE with . . . I'll put a dash or two in some water and give it a try . . . if no one ever hears from me again, you'll know who to blame . . . ("Truck driver found dead in his truck on the side of the road . . . the only clue to his demise was fourteen empty Tobasco bottles littering the floor of his cab . . . ")
