Just wanted to say thank you to TT for the great info and the High Road Training. My wife and I completed our schooling last week (tech college), have our CDLs and yesterday passed our HazMat , Tanker and Doubles/Triples endorsements.
The training here was instrumental for both school and the endorsements! In fact, I found the High Road program to be better than the school program materials!
Thanks again for a great starting foundation in our new careers!
One quick question - we have an appt to apply for our TWIC cards on Friday. Is it worth the investment (about $130 each) to get this before reporting for orientation (we leave this weekend for Mon start).
Congratulations. I would definately do the TWIC now. It takes a while for the clearance to be run (similar to HAZMAT) and I believe there may be a discount when having done the HAZMAT, too.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
