So i have seen some say if you get permit ahead of time, it saves time. However, I was under the impression you permit is only good for the state permit is issued in. Can someone explain..... I was wondering if maybe there are different guidelines where it is a school you are enrolled in rather than learning with an individual. I appreciate the clarification. Studying for test right now. Again, thank you.

You will get your license in the state that you live in.. Typically they will just transfer it over to your home state from the state that you have tested in.

I would just call or send your recruiter an email and explain that you're considering obtaining your permit before you come into their academy and ask them whether or not there will be any issues with it. Also, you wont be able to take the tests for the permit until you get your DOT medical card (at least thats the case in Arizona!).

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
