Using the app while you are driving???

Isn't that the same thing as using your cell phone while driving? Isn't that illegal?

And unsafe to boot.

Next time you are driving by a weigh station that is open and you want to let other drivers know, make sure you let the DOT officers see you using your phone while driving.

I can't figure out the reason why you need to warn other drivers of a weigh station being open. If I am caught with a heavy load, not only will I get a ticket that the company won't pay for, I will loose my job. So, I make sure I have a legit load before I get to a weigh station.

Well most times. Sometimes you hit those "hidden" ones before you make it to a scale.

Don't get me wrong. I have all those apps. And yes, I do use them from time to time while I am driving. BUT NEVER when I am near a weigh station or going thru a town.

I use them if there is no place to pull off and I am running really behind and need to know where the next rest area or T/S is. But never when I am around lots of traffic.

My favorite app have become Trucker Path. It still has some issues that they are working on. But it is a darn good one to find a stop or plan a route.

Keep it safe out here, the life you save might be your own.

Geesh....thanks for the blistering judgment there. Yes, as hard to believe as it may be, I have from time to time used my phone while actually driving. That being said, I take a lot of pride in being extremely safe and courteous on the road, and I take offense to someone judging me by remarks I make on a website. I'm very far from an unsafe commercial vehicle operator. confused.gif

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

I hit the button and it tells me address and how far. To much thinking. I want to hit a button, see a map of me on a road and see stops ahead of me. Any one have any recommendations? I currently have MyDAT trucker.

I use the MyPilot app, Loves app and TA App, along with Trucker Tools. Another good one is CAT Scale App and Weigh My Truck which is from CAT Scale.

They work for me, each one of the truck stop apps show's me the closest one to me and what hwy and the distance.

I can't find the TA app... Is TA the actual name of the app? ... I'm an iPhonist

CAT Scale:

A network of over 1,500 certified truck scales across the U.S. and Canada found primarily at truck stops. CAT scales are by far the most trustworthy scales out there.

In fact, CAT Scale offers an unconditional Guarantee:

“If you get an overweight fine from the state after our scale showed your legal, we will immediately check our scale. If our scale is wrong, we will reimburse you for the fine. If our scale is correct, a representative of CAT Scale Company will appear in court with the driver as a witness”

Crappy app, that guides you to crappy places. Sorry. Far as I'm concerned, loves and pilot ain't truckstops. Let's call them fuel stops. TTT and Iowa 80 are the only ones that still qualify. For all the guys that were around way back,Mass 10 (AKA The Dump) in Massachusetts and Naked City in Indiana (okay. They were a skin bar masquerading as a truck stop. Always fun to stop there). Think about it. Taco Bell,Wendy's,Popeyes, etc. that's not food. In about 30 minutes your hungry again. Not to mention the people there are rude. Now 76 and TA. Those are real choke and pukes. Christmas and Thanksgiving they'd have special dinners. Some even celebrated Easter with Easter dinners (that wouldn't work today. Crybaby liberals would scream because it celebrates the resurrection of Christ). You wouldn't miss the holidays without family too much. Lot of the waitresses would know you by name. There were even a few that had barber shops. Heard of one that had a dentist. They had a 76 down off McCarty st. in downtown Houston . You just knew you were gonna catch some disease just walking through the front door, but the waitresses were friendly as can be. So it was worth the stop just for their waitresses. Of course I've never heard of loves or pilot having trouble with Lot Lizards,so I guess they got 76 and TA beat there.
