The "feel" comes and goes, at least that's what it's done for me now four and a half months into my adventure. When I was in the first few weeks of training, I would shift and downshift silky smooth one day and be completely lost the next. I failed my CDL test on the first attempt because I pointed out on the alley dock backing maneuver, then the next day I put her in the hole in about 30 seconds with no points or pullups on the same maneuver.

I think driving a truck is a lot like having a jump shot in basketball. One day you'll be at the park hitting shots from everywhere and the next everything bounces off of the rim. One day driving a truck you'll shift like butter and slide a trailer right into a hole, and the next you'll want to drink or cry, probably both.

At my company, most people pass on their second day. Just do your best and you'll get the CDL whether it's day 1 or 2 or whatever.
