I recently had to renew my annual DOT physical but was having blood pressure issues high 174 over 93 at one point , so after talking to my Doc and having medication increased it still remained out of acceptable range, I increased the medication on my own the day of the test and an hour before being tested I was safely 127over 68, good to go. At the test clinic I tried to remain calm and think pleasant thoughts however when the dreaded test took place it was 148 over 82 I was instructed to relax and they would retake it after 15 -20 minutes, they returned and after the cuff was depressurizing I flexed my arm under the cuff ,the reading 130 over 83 pulse 69 I recreated this with my home unit this AM and trying several times each time I flexed while depressurizing the reading dropped . start was 112 second was 108 third try 101 not sure this trick would work for everybody but it did for me. If you have your own BP equipment try it to see if it works for you. " CAUTION" With high BP readings the danger is still there and needs treatment!!! Disclaimer I am not exactly sure of stated diastolic [LOWER] pressure as my concern was for the Systolic pressure only.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Weird, I don't get it. lol It can be different at any given time. Some forums comment not to exercise before doing one , but I went and did my jog tonight, a slow 3.1 miles in 26.40 minutes( sometimes 30 minutes) and walked one mile also. I came home within ten minutes and my pressure was fine. I know it is somewhat nerves and not breathing properly due to the nervousness. If I get a 140 plus reading and then do breathing exercises I get down to 132 usually within two to three minutes and sometimes 127 or less within five. Some times I test and I am 113 and 111 only to go to the doctor and hit a 141 or something. Get there early and breath in long deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Maybe put apiece of chocolate in your mouth and melt it slowly while thinking only of the chocolate. It's crazy having white coat syndrome. I had a girlfriend once and just before we broke up if I heard her start to say anything I would feel tension in my chest area....only time in my life I ever felt it as if I knew she was going to start whining or something. Broke up, never felt it again.
