Christopher, welcome aboard!
We may need a little more info to be helpful. If you don't mind, do you have felonies, and how old are they?
1 felony in 2002, several misdemeanors though from 2008 -2010
Christopher, most truck driving schools will assist you with job placement. Has yours started this process yet? Have you started filling out applications?
Read through our section on Understanding Pre-Hires and then try to get out as many applications as you can. You can Apply For Truck Driving Jobs at that link and only have to fill out one application while sending it out to multiple companies. Try Western Express, Paschall Truck Lines, and Carolina Cargo.
Remember, you may have to just take what you can get at first, but if you stick it out for a year of safe driving you will find a lot more companies overlooking your past.
If your misdemeanors are for theft that could cause you some problems, but dont give up, just keep plugging away and someone will take a chance on you. Remember that they rolled the dice on you and resolve to help them win their gamble. You don't have to relocate. I lived a thousand miles away from my first trucking company's main office. When you need to go home they will find you some freight that delivers close to your hometown.
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
