....their training experiences with me. I am scheduled to start orientation on May 27th in Dallas. They say the portion of training with the onboard trainer is 6 weeks. Is this set in stone, or is it more or less based on how long it takes me to show I can handle the job? Any and all stories, tips, advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I can't comment on US Xpress but I know Knights program with the trainer is 4-6 weeks. They want to see students complete it in 4 but the week 4 evaluation by the trainer determines whether another week or two might be necessary based on needing to sharpen some remaining skills. It could even be a situation where a breakdown for a few days threw things out of whack and as a concern of being fair to the student, extending them a week.

One thing I do know is that with a good trainer, the time goes by quickly. Today starts day two of my second week and it seems like just yesterday that I climbed in my trainers truck and stowed my gear.

Good luck, have fun, be safe and welcome to a great community.

It shouldn't take you six weeks unless you need extra work . I think they go by 180 driving hours, which you should do in about a month. If you fail your road test you may be sent out for another 50 hours of, for example, shift training for those having trouble with a manual. (This has the added benefit of guaranteeing that you will be issued an automatic after upgrade) One recommendation that I would make is, work hard, follow your trainers instruction, but stand up for yourself.

You are NOT 'a guest in his house', as so many trainers like to put it.

You are a company employee in a company vehicle and so is he.
