Start training for Swift on June 1st. First stop is Gladstone, Missouri for 4 days, then to West Valley, Utah for 9 days, after that it's OTR with trainer for 4-5 weeks. Can't wait!! Thought I would be going to Memphis Academy but they have me going to Gladstone then West Valley, UT. Has anyone been to West Valley, UT terminal/training center? I think its basically in Salt Lake. Also don't understand why I'm going to Missouri for 4 days, My recruiter said I will be getting permit in Utah and training in Utah, so not sure what the Missouri 4 day stop is for.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Jarod, I'm just bumping this back up to the top so that hopefully a "Swifty" might see it and have an answer for you.

I would assume that four days in MO is some sort of an orientation period where they may possibly be doing your physical, drug screen, and lots of paperwork. That's just a guess though. Hopefully someone can give you a more knowledgeable answer.

Jarod, i used to work at Central and I quit right after the merge with Swift. Swift shut down their terminal in SLC and used Centrals main terminal in SLC. Needless to say, two giant companies flooded that terminal and it was extremely overcrowded.

I'm assuming they're taking you to Gladstone for either orientation, drug testing, or some kind of training. You'll have your license before you go with a trainer but you'll most likely get that in SLC which leads me to believe that Gladstone is just a short stop for drug testing and/or orientation. I think they're doing this in an attempt to reduce the amount of traffic at their SLC terminal.
