Just bought the corba 29ltd classic and bought two wilson 2000 trucker 3500 watts antennas. Tried to cal it last night but I keep getting a red light on the ant led. The meter keeps going into the red when I check the swr. The only thing left for me to do is try to replace the wire or cut the antenna down to size, I drive a freightliner cascadia.

Almost forgot I am using the truck's wiring for my CB.

Thanks for any help.

On all the newer PLASTIC trucks, you have a heck of a time getting your antennae grounded. sometimes you have to run a seperate wire from the antennae to the frame of the truck to get it down. If your antennae isn't grounded, when you key the mike, you may well blow your finals, and your new radio turns into a light boat anchor....to be sure your antennae is grounded.

Most CB shops carry custom mounts for Cascadia's now. It mounts to the two screws where the mirror is mounted to the door. No need to run extra wiring to get a good ground. The screws that mount the mirror go into the metal frame and will be enough. I run one single antenna on the passenger side of my Cascadia and I have a SWR of 1.2. You can't get much better than that no matter what truck you have. It would take me longer to explain what a "Ground Plane is or why a strong "Carrier Single" is better and more important than what wattage a radio can do or how much a radio can swing and frankly I don't carry to spend that amount of time on the subject And never use the antenna wiring that came with the truck. Worse thing you could do. The electrical wires for powering the CB is OK. Get to a decent CB shop as soon as you can. Oh BTW don't fall for the wattage a antenna can handle because that Cobra 29 will never output more than 29 to 32 watts max no matter who works on your radio. Want more wattage out of your radio then you will need to spend the money on a better radio.

Honestly unless you are like me and want everyone within a 20 mile radius to hear you then that Cobra 29 will do you just fine and will last a very long time.
