I believe anything with Rand McNally maps, specifically designated for truck drivers, is the standard.

Great so many kinds so I wasn't so sure. Thank you
Garmin has a series called "dēzl" for truckers. Look for a notation about trucks or motor carriers on the box. Even Rand McNally makes GPS labeled "for automobiles" - it's not for trucks.
Your phone actualy does a great job,as most all gps units, run the same program, just a matter of what extra features you want. The phone can be connected through the audio system, and usually matches my gps unit directions. My car gps,Garmin nuvi 50 has all the features that I need, the junction view the most usefull.Gps is only a tool, have to apply some common sense while using it.
I also use my phone GPS, but the phone does not account for road/bridge weight restrictions or low clearances. That can get you in real trouble.
I got the Rand 730. It cost a bit more, but I wanted the biggest screen I could get, and glad I did. First GPS I've ever had, I find it easy to use. Invaluable tool, but you have to pay attention to where you are going and be ready to say "oh, hell no!" to the GPS occasionally.
Don't forget to employ Google Maps as well. Not necessarily for their point by point directions, but for a nice zoom in / sat view of your destination. You'll be able to trace your route a few steps backwards just by taking notice of the streets on the map.
