So the 720 has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Yet, its still more expensive than the latest version (730). Is the 720 better than the 730 in any way?

No, I've used both and prefer the 730. The updates to the interface on the 730 are a definite improvement. The routing algorithms seem to be pretty much the same, so no reason to buy the older one, especially if it's more expensive.
