What I find ODD is how (from reading this and other threads) it seems that Prime is making it the students responsibility to find a trainer? I would think that a well run training program is going to have at least one or more coordinators who are charged with making sure every student is moving through the program as efficiently as possible and not left sitting around. Any well run company needs to manage their people resources as well as their physical resources for peak efficency, one of the keys to maximising profit and minimizing waste. Right now Prime is losing money on Jeremy by keeping him on the bench and continuing to pay his room and board when somebody needs to step up to the plate and get him assigned to a trainier so he can get up to speed and be productive employee quicker.

Love this post. Prime is on my short list, but when the onus is placed (what seems like primarily) on the trainee to find their way, little red flags go up for me.

Hopefully this is the exception and not the rule. Good luck Jeremy.

The way they have the food situation made up is they give you a $200.00 loan every week which you have to repay. I haven't touched it yet but my savings is being dwindled so Im gonna have to start using it.

The sad part is you eat at the company store. It's like that messed up Waylon Jennings song about the Rockefeller union busters.

They also get you to sign a 3,750.00 contract that says you have to stay with em for a year after 7 days. I think the assumption is you'll be outta here within 7 days. The problem is though they have more dtufents than instructors and they are recruiting outta California when honestly they shouldn't if they can't find someone to assist.

I'm degraded, demotivated and just sour now. Thanks for your guys support so far but I'm seriously considering throwing in the towel at this point. Just spoke to a class of 10 instructors they all already have students who got here after me. So yeah, it's a cyclic event that's just starting to get real sickening.

Thanks though for your support and advice. Wish this would work out differently. If anyone is considering going to Prime from Northern California you may want to think twice. 2,000 miles is pretty far to be sitting on your but in Missouri going into "company debt."

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Just a thought... so I could be way off base, so Maybe a Prime Driver can comment as well.. but Jeremy, have you tried escalating this up through the training programs managment "chain of command" to see if they can help you get your situation resolved?

If you really want to get your career started and being from California is what is holding you back can't you just tell them you don't need home time during training? Rough it and sleep in the truck while your trainer takes his home time wherever that may be?

I told em, the issue is that the list they give the instructors to call students from has your location next to your name. So they disqualify you in their minds right off the bat without even talking to you and move down to the next guy.

Just gonna be patient hope this guy will call me by 5pm today. Just don't want to set myself up for another dissapointment.

This scares me some being from Oregon. I am also someone who won't care about sleeping in the truck while a trainer takes home time but, seems a lot of drivers are from the east, south, northeast. Hopefully you'll get out of there soon but, don't throw in the towel. I assume you'll still owe the company on top of not having a job at that point either. Heck, maybe they can change the state next to your name to Missouri.

I got another instructor, a gentlemen with 20 years experience so I'm hoping it will work out. They don't want people sitting here for too long and I've been here too long. I think it's all eventualities.

Don't be concerned if your from Oregon or the West. They move things forward.

Jeremy, it sounded like you were just about to give up. I'm proud of you for staying the course - it was tough, but you'll be glad you did.

You've been away from home for a good while now, and that is just gonna make your training time that much tougher. Strap yourself in and get ready for the ride of your life. You are still gonna have some strong temptations to give up and go home. In a few years this will all be a distant memory, and you will be glad you hung in there.

Keep those wheels turning brother!
