Anyone know of any alternate routes to the GWB and Cross Bronx Expressway? This is becomming a nightmare in my trucker life. The traffic is horrendous.

Really depends on where you are coming from and where you are going. You can take I287 over the Tappan Zee but I really don't know how much extra time you would save doing that. Every time I've gone over the GW it's been early before rush hour so I've never really had any issues with it.

I agree with Heavy C.

I will use the Tappan Zee if it is during peak traffic hours. Timing is everything when crossing the GWB. I come through that area on a weekly basis and I'll cross the GWB if I can time my trip through there between ten o'clock at night and five in the morning, otherwise I will go north a little and cross the Tappan Zee bridge.

Thirding the Tappan Zee. I made the mistake of crossing the GWB during the day once. Never again. It took me almost 3 hours to get from Fort Lee to Connecticut. My FM at Central tried giving me a ration of sh*t for going around the GWB once, until I pointed out that the "long way" is actually at least 90 minutes faster, and the toll across the Tappan Zee bridge is way less than the toll across the GWB. He never gave me any flack for going out of route through there again.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
