I started working on getting cdl with a family member who owns a small company in nov.2014 but it didn't work out so I went a diff path still learned on my own by reading a lot on this site I was able to pass the written test here in tex today with no worries now it's time for the road test I ll will be renting a truck for this I know I have a long road because I have two felonies but hard work and never giving up my dream will come true soon thank you trucking truth

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Best of luck to ya Stump! Remember, you can't rent a truck and drive yourself to the testing site. Someone has to take you there. Otherwise you'll end up leaving with a fine instead of a license.

Danno, where do you think you are taking the truck without a fully licensed driver?

BTW, another TT member did rent a truck & trailer for the test, and the rental company guy drove to the exam with them.

You should stop by your local U-Haul store and find out the answers for yourself... Looks like with a class C TX license (no endorsements, non-CDL): My friend logged about 140mi. To/From new home.

There you go. Rental company guy. Plenty of options. :)

You should also check into the joke of a DPS in Waco, TX.
