You need to mess around with the setting of your APU and change them so that it will auto start when batteries get low. These things are famous for sensors going bad so check yourself into the shop because the sensor could be bad and its not telling the APU to start when it should. So it's either your settings or a sensor in my opinion.
On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.
Apu's are great...when they work.I have my fridge in high to keep ice cream cold.Multiple trucks had a relay go bad,and wouldnt charge the batteries correctly.Loan Star-Pro star system works the best, followed by pete,kenworth.. .dead last..not sure where freighty stacks up...they havent assigned me one yet..

My truck (2015 Freightliner) has an APU. I use the optimized idle glut the a/c ants I use a cpap. Now here's where I'm confused. My truck has two 110 (I think) outlets in the sleeper. I'm putting a tv and blu ray player in there tomorrow, but for the last few months all I've used them for is the cpap. The apu has outlets also (I've never plugged anything in to it) so I run my ac and cpap and my idle kicks in art least once a night. I know it does it automatically to help reduce battery drain, but isn't that what the apu is for?
