Hello everyone! Tommorow I have an interview to get into school for my cdl. I am being interviewed by the director of the school and am pretty nervous. I don't really know what to wear or what to expect other than paperwork. Any tips or advise would be greatly appreciated!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

No jeans. For this khakis and a polo would work.

I'm sure some will say it's a school so they will accept you no matter what. But not looking like a bum and a good attitude will go far.

I assume this is a "private" school that you are paying tuition for? Not being cynical, but the interview is your commitment/contract for the tuition. The rest is probably a get-to-know you session for the both of you.

If you think you'll be nervous, drink extra water at least 1/2 hour before so you don't get dry mouth. (And you'll be ready if that interview includes a small cup!)

that's the worst when you gotta do a drug test and can't pee... i remember that happened when I did a drug test a long time ago (think it was my first). it was an early morning one but I made the mistake of peeing after i woke up... I probably drank about 3 gallons of water and then even then it was about 2 hours before i could go. the next drug test i learned my lesson and didn't go when i woke up... they had me waiting for over an hour because they forgot i was there -.- i had an appointment for the drug test so i went up to counter and asked them and they apologized a bunch and had me go on in and take care of business.

Thanks guys. The interview went well and I start school on sept 14. I passed the dot and drug test. School is sept 14 through oct 9. After that I'll be headed to Des Moines Iowa for orientation with TMC.

DOT:

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
