I am Bryan. They call me Beard around Bellingham. I'm making a huge change in my life right now and it all involves joining this wonderful community of professional drivers. For the last 15 years i have been cooking in kitchens all over Washington. i'm burnt out and need a new opportunity. I've always wanted to get behind the wheel and see the country from a big rig. so thats what i'm doing. finding a school/company to get training from is an interesting journey and it only begins what i'm trying to do. I'm super excited to be making this change in my life and i cant wait to see you all out on the road.

How would they even know? I can see it coming up on a UA. But how would they know if I didn't have 3 years?

About 3 months. I did not realize this was going to be a factor tbh. How do they determine how long you have been clean. Other than self reporting.

So I got a call today from a recruiter with Swift. I asked him about a few different things but the one that ended our conversation was when I brought up my previous cannabis use. Now I understand why you don't want people with a substance abuse problem behind the wheel of a truck, but he told me that they would be looking for 3 years without any use. Is this a normal expectation for new drivers? I have been taking time to get clean and to flush my system, but I didn't think they would be looking for 3 years? Maybe other companies would be more understanding of someone wanting to make a change to their life? I was really set on being able to do this soon.

History of substance use
Thank you G. I will take that to heart when doing my research and applying to other programs. I do have a tendency to offer too much information when it comes to these types of situations. guess i'd rather be upfront about it instead of have it bite me in the ass on the back end.
