Amarillo College Truck Driving Academy

Amarillo College accurately prepares students for a career in truck driving through thorough classroom instruction, state-of-the-art driving simulator, and practical application of skills training. AC sets students up for success in passing the Class A Commercial Driver's License Test.

• Class A CDL Training

  An eight-week course featuring state-of-the-art simulator training, classroom instruction, range and road driving, and practical application of skills for driving a tractor-trailer.

Class Schedule

Class A CDL Training

This course occurs over 8 weeks and offers both day and night classes. This course is offered on the Amarillo campus on the following days in Spring 2019:

• January 14 - March 7, 2019, 7:30am-5:00pm, Monday-Thursday
• January 14 - March 10, 2019, 5:30pm-10:15pm, Monday-Thursday
• March 18 - May 10, 2019, 7:30am-5pm, Monday-Thursday

Tuition and Fees

Class A CDL Training

This course is estimated to cost a total of $5167. This estimation includes the price of tuition, books, DOT medical card/drug screen, and other student supplements.

Financing options

The THRIVE scholarship program allows students to attend AC for free in preparation to transfer to a four-year university or enter the workforce.

Assorted financial aid is also available for all students, including federal grants, loans, and scholarships.

Student minimum Requirements

Before starting this course, students must be:

• At least 18 years old
• Have a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card (cost not included in course cost)
• Pass a drug screen (cost not included in course cost)
• Have a valid civilian Texas Driver's License

Military Assistance

The Hazelwood Act, a State of Texas benefit, provides qualified Veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, books, or supply fees. Visit the Texan Veterans Commission website for more information.
